From October 2, 2012 to October 5, 2012
As part of the “Farah el-Bahr” festival organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation, a huge mosaic was collectively created outside the Citadel of Qaitbay in Alexandria. Around 500 people took part in the five coloring stations set up by Mahatat team in different neighborhoods in Alexandria, including in front of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the tram stations Boukly and Mahatat Masr, and Midan Mansheya.
Two artists, Sarah Hany and Dahlia Refaat, actively participated in the project, which encouraged dialogue and collective work between passersby and the artists involved.
Passersby were invited to color on cardboard and the pieces were assembled to create a mosaic imagining “the other side of the sea”. The mosaic was used to promote the festival, which was attended by around 2000 people.
